Winter Wedding at Tahoe Palisades Olympic Valley

A Tahoe Palisades Winter wedding, Olympic Valley, California

I’m super excited to share Jonathan and Kate’s epic Lake Tahoe winter wedding with you all. As many of you know, Tahoe is a dream destination for many couples looking to tie the knot throughout the year. For this intimate wedding couple, the best season in Tahoe to get married is winter. Many ask what months are best for a winter wedding, and the answer is January, February and March if you want snow. For many who love skiing and snowboarding, it’s an epic winter wonderland in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Jonathan and Kate married at Palisades Tahoe in Olympic Valley, California in the middle of a challenging winter storm passing through. Even though it was cold, windy, and snowing, they embraced it with love, joy, and with their friends.

The whole day was just full of emotion, laughter, beauty, tears, support, and worshipping Jesus. We started out the day capturing the guys jumping in the freezing Tahoe Lake off the dock of their airbnb for an ice bath. I knew after that it was going to be a fun day. After drying off, Kate came down to meet Jonathan with the group. They pulled out a guitar with some worship music, singing out loud together to Jesus as they poured out the hearts with tears and joy. Kate and Jonathan wanted to make sure to start their day with prayer and worship with God before getting married. Their devotion to God was real and inspiring.

After worship, they wanted to snowboard and get some photos in their wedding attire since snowboarding is what they enjoy. They had been boarding the previous days prior to their wedding. Soon after, we prepared for their intimate ceremony with the snow-capped mountains and towering trees as our backdrop.

We met up with the super amazing Jenna from the Palisades Tahoe who would assist us with the wedding ceremony planned at the top of the tram. John and Kate really wanted to share their vows at the top of the Palisades wedding venue. Jenna and her team at Palisades made it happen, despite almost shutting down the tram. They went above and beyond for my couple and their friends, and that made me happy for them and Palisades. Even though Tahoe winter conditions were challenging at the top, Jonathan and Kate exchanged vows privately having to read louder against the competing noisy wind and snow smacking their face. Even our cameras and lenses were getting hit straight on and would go in and out of focus, but to me, that was the adventure. It was exciting and different.

People often ask me with my Tahoe destination weddings that if weather is bad, do we just postpone the photography? If you look at these epic snowy winter photos with the bride wearing winter boots, you’ll see why we love to shoot in these conditions, and just keep shooting. It’s part of the adventure wedding photography experience. It’s part of your story and your photos. Through thick and thin, through challenges, and through adventures. We get amazing photos as a result.

After exchanging vows, we all took the tram to the bottom of the Palisades, and Jonathan and Kate married there before all their friends. It was a perfect location for the conditions that Jenna had offered us after the tram was shut down. It was late in the day and it was getting colder, but the group’s level of excitement was still high. They were cheering, clapping, chanting names of those who helped them, and hugging and smiling. Their fervor and appreciation was magnetic.

Later they went the The Sawyer Schaffer’s Mill for a nice dinner reception and enjoyed toasts, food, and fellowship.

I’m stoked to be sharing these images and I’m happy for them. Thank you to Palisades Tahoe for being so accommodating and working hard for everyone! Here are some of the images from John and Kate’s wedding day.
